It is not known for certain who wrote Psalm 91 of the Bible. For some researchers, it was Moses, because of some idioms. For others, however, the psalmist was King David. Psalm 91 was probably written between 1391–1271 BCE.
Above all, more important is the psalm 91 meaning in its verses, cited by millions of people as prayer.
In a nutshell, the explanation for Psalm 91 is this: whoever trusts in the Almighty, and surrenders his ways to him, will always have his protection and support. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91 1.
Most powerful in the bible
I consider the psalm 91 prayer one of the most powerful in the bible, especially for those who memorize its verses.
And you, already memorized the complete psalm 91? Or do you only know a few more striking verses?
For example, psalm 91 4 “he will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your protective shield ”.
But besides psalm 91 4, you may find remarkable, psalm 91 7 which mentions ten thousand will fall at your right: “a thousand will fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right, but you will not be hit.”
Anyone who repeats mentally psalm 91 verse 7 will feel stronger, more encouraged in the face of adverse situations.
I say this from experience. I know from memory. Psalm 91. I think i can repeat verse from verse 91, from the first to the last or from the last to the first.
It is for protection and is in the memory of millions of people worldwide, both catholic and protestant. Therefore, there is a universal consensus on its effectiveness.
Despite that, there are those people who think differently. That is, for them the psalm 91 in today’s language or in the older version is just a jumble of words, in the form of metaphor, hyperbole and other figures of speech. Therefore, not all attach importance to it.
But, each one thinks what he wants. Personally, i think they are wrong, but i respect their views.
Anyway, what is psalm 91 for? I say that both psalm 91 writing as spoken serves to improve our self-confidence to face the obstacles of everyday life. It serves to increase our hope of salvation from god, at the time he has set. It serves to increase our strength and courage, as i said before.
In addition, and other things, it serves to increase our faith.
Commentary
Who doesn’t remember when he was a child and played hide-and-seek? This happened mainly with those who lived in the countryside until the 80s.
When the child found the perfect place to hide, he felt completely protected. Of course, it was a joke and someone ended up being found in hiding or leaving after a while.
But in the case of psalm 91 of the sacred bible, the hiding place of the highest is a protection that no one can reach. It is an impregnable fortress, a strong tower, as can be deduced from these verses:
“I will say of the LORD: He is my God, my refuge, my fortress, and I will trust in him.” “A strong tower is the name of the LORD; the righteous run to her and are safe. ” (Psalm 91: 2; Proverbs 18: 10).
Psalms 91 different versions
In the table below you will see the evangelical psalm 91 complete in one column and the psalms 91 catholic bible complete in the other column.
You will notice that there is no difference, as the Bible is one. Therefore, it does not matter whether you read the psalms 91 catholic or the psalms 91 evangelical, in any translation of the Bible.
The only strange thing is that the Catholic Bible has a few more books, called apocryphal. But, again, psalms 91 from the bible is the same as psalms 91 from the gospel bible.
Psalm 91 Catholic
1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,[a]
2 will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,[b] the Most High your dwelling place,
10 no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
14 Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.
Psalm 91 gospel
91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation
Psalm 91 King James Version
Did you notice any difference in the essence of psalm 91 catholic bible to PSALM 91 GOSPEL BIBLE? Of course, it doesn’t exist. The content is the same, only the words vary from translation to translation.
What does psalm 91 say
Psalm nineteen one facilitates our understanding of how to reach the Most High, but for that it is necessary to have faith and trust.
For example, the psalmist’s confidence was so great that he knew that God had the power to free him from the hunter’s snare, an image that symbolizes danger. Furthermore, he also believed that God could protect him from the serpent’s deadly poison, that is, from Satan.
Men are not faithful, but the Most High is and covers everyone who trusts him with his protective shield.
Even to his angels he will give order over those who trust him. Certainly, Psalm 91 is a prayer of protection.
Customizing Psalm 91
I usually customize psalm 91. For example, instead of saying “he who habits in the hidden from the highest” or “he who habits in the hidden” i prefer to say like this “i who dwell in the hiding place of the highest.” or “i who habit in hiding”
Another example: instead of saying “thousand will fall at your side and ten thousand at your right”, i prefer to say “a thousand will fall on my side and ten thousand on my right.” And in the place of “no evil will succeed you” i say “no evil will succeed me” thus, the power of the psalm increases for me, because i am applying it to my person.
You can also personalize the psalm ninety and one, addressing it to a loved one.
In this case, when you quote the one who habits in the hidden from the highest, keep in mind the image of your loved one or more than one, sons, daughters, brothers, whoever you are directing the power of the psalm.
Conclusion
Apply Psalm 91 in your life and feel the results almost immediately. The more you quote it the more your faith, your strength, your self-confidence and your hope will increase.
Memorize it and quote it by replacing “that” with “me”, “you” with “me” “will say” with “say” and so on in other words.
